Olympian Missy Marlowe

We were happy to have Missy back at Gym Fest this year. Her daughter was competing — and looked GREAT. :-)

Missy MarloweBorn in Belgium in 1971, Melissa (Missy Marlowe) began gymnastics at a young age, and spent much of her competitive career with Mark Lee of Rocky Mountain Gymnastics in Salt Lake City, Utah. With her strong performance at the 1987 US Nationals (2nd AA), Missy demonstrated that she was a strong contender for the 1988 Olympic team. She was also voted “Athlete of the Year” by her teammates in 1987. In the 1988 Olympic Trials in front of the home crowd, Missy moved up several spots from Nationals (she had a fall on beam) to 6th in the AA. This secured her the final spot on the team.

Unlike many of her teammates from the 1988 games, Missy retired from elite competition and began NCAA competition with the University of Utah. While there, Missy earned 1 perfect 10 on vault, 3 10′s on uneven bars, 2 on balance beam, and one on floor. She made the list several times for Utah’s all time best AA scores in competition, and was an All-American in all four of her competitive seasons (1989-1992). …
